A great speech
Hi readers! Due to my CA1 exams and homework, I haven't been able to update my blog that often so I apologize about that. But today I am writing this blog post for another one of my English assignments about.....a good speech! If you were to ask me what my definition of a good speech is, I would tell you that a good speech is a speech that can inspire people and evoke the audiences' feelings to make them think in great detail about what the speaker just said. But to me, a good speaker is more important than a good speech as a good speaker would be able to capture the audiences' attention and convey the message to the audience more clearly. However, a good speech is also important in its own way as a good speech can help to influence and inspire the audiences. To me, an example of a good speech is the video found above as the speaker, Randy Pausch, delivered his speech in such a way that he inspired the graduates of Carnegie Mellon University and many other people, including me.
After hearing Randy Pausch's speech, I will always remember what he said: "We do not beat the Grim Reaper by living longer, but instead we beat the Grim Reaper by living our life well." In the speech, Randy talks living our life well by doing things that we've always wanted to do. He also said that on their deathbed, people often do not regret what they've done, but instead they regret what they have not done. This speech is good as it catches the audiences' attention and makes them think in great detail about their lives. This kind of speech is persuasive and encouraging as in the speech, Randy Pausch emphasizes about two things: passion and living life well. He also encourages all the graduates of Carnegie Mellon University to never give up and keep finding their passion and true love as from his experiece, passion cannot be found in things and especially in money. I also think that this speech is good as it inspires and influences people and most of all, it is not boring like most other speeches.
Finally, I would like to learn more from Randy Pausch and become an inspiring speaker like him in the future. So that's all for this blog post. Bye bye!

#4 My very first cookie!
Today we had home economics for our last period of the day and guess what we cooked, or rather baked...... it was cookies!!! Ever since I was a little kid, I loved to eat cookies.(But not the extent like the Cookie Monster in Sesame Street) I would eat any kind of cookie, carnival, double chocolate chips etc. But my favourite cookie was the first cookie I ever ate in my whole life, and it was the normal chocolate chip cookie. But too bad because today, we were learning how to bake peanut butter cookies instead of the chocolate chip ones.
It was very fun baking cookies as we got to use the oven, the beater but the best part about baking cookies is that we would get to try out our cookies once they are ready! And ours tasted great, so me and my partner, Lyndon, both got a 5/5. Full marks on our first try!
But of course we would encounter problems on the way. For example, at first I did not sift the flour properly so some of the flour flew out instead and dirtied the table. Another problem that we faced is that our movements were quite slow and we weren't as efficient as the other groups but then we still perservered as I always believe that slow and steady wins the race. Some of our cookies were also burnt at the sides and the shapes weren't quite nice too. But we solved all our problems by working together and dividing the work between ourselves so that one of us would wash the plates and everything while the other guy would start shaping the cookies and put them in the oven.

#3 I became a senior
What a tiring day it was for me today. I had lessons until 2:15pm and afterwards I had to go for my volleyball training until 6:30pm! But here comes the interesting part...... I became a senior! As today, the Sec 1 boys had to go for their new cca trainings and guess what, I was in charge of 2 juniors. One of them was called Jordan, from class 1D, I think. While the other boy was called Edmund. According to my observations, Edmund was better than Jordan in controlling the ball but I guess that's because he has played volleyball before in his primary school. It also felt great being the senior of somebody as I have more authority and I can also order them to do stuffs, like what some of our seniors did to us when we were still in Sec 1. But of course I am a good guy so I didn't go around ordering the Sec 1s to do stuffs for me.
Today was also the most unusual day I've had ever since this year started as today the coach did not come for training because his wife gave birth to his second child today! Congratulations to my coach! Anyway, after I came home today I felt extremely exhausted as it was already 8:30pm! But nevertheless, I still persevered and managed to finish all the homework that was due tomorrow so that I could write this blog entry to tell you all what a happy but unusual day I've had today. Oh and by the way, the Sec 1s were very cooperative and easy going too
Today although it was a very tiring day for me, I still found it a fruitful day as I also made new Sec 1 friends! So that all for my blog entry! Good bye.

#2 What a stressful Day...
What a hectic day it was for me today! As you all know, I am studying in Victoria School. It is a very good school but last Friday I got bombarded with a lot of homework from my subject teachers. And guess what, I could not finish them over the weekends so today, I had so much homework to do such that I nearly went insane! But luckily I got saved by my Mum who taught me some something valuable which I will never forget. Here's what happened......
The minute I got home, which was already 4:00pm as I stay very far away from the school, I quickly settled down to do my work but upon seeing the tall pile of worksheets, assessment books and homework, I nearly wanted to faint! This is the biggest problem that most secondary school kids would face: stress and too much homework. But luckily my Mum came to my rescue! She told me to manage my time properly and to take breaks if I feel too stressed out so that I could do my work without feeling so stressed. So I decided to heed my Mum's advice and guess what, everything turned out great! I would listen to songs on my handphone when I was stressed and I was actually able to finish all of my homework before 8:00pm! I owe it to my Mum for teaching me about time management or else I would still be doing my homework now.
So that's all for my third blog post! In a nutshell, I learned a very valuable lesson in life today and that is to manage my time properly so that I can do finish my work in a faster amount of time. Good night and always remember to take occasional breaks so that you won't feel so stressed out! Bye bye!
Whenever I hear this song, I would always remember this blog post as this was the song which I listened to when I was stressed. So just sit back and enjoy the video!

#5 Something I did alone which I enjoyed
This will be my last blog entry for my English assignment but I will still continue to update this blog whenever I am free so please continue to view my blog! Anyway today is Sunday and I did something alone today which I enjoyed very much ever since I was a little kid. As you all know, one of my favourite hobbies is building gundams so today, I spent three hours alone in my room building a gundam! Many of my friends think that building gundams is childish and a waste of time but to me, building gundams is cool as you can get a sense of satisfaction after you built one.
But of course building gundams isn't easy as you will encounter some problems on the way. Here are the problems which I faced while fixing my gundam. Firstly, the arm of the gundam was quite hard to fix as there are a lot of complicated parts which need to be put together. Secondly, I accidentally broke the rifle of the gundam so in the end I had to replace the rifle with a beam sword instead. Lastly, the wings of the gundam was quite hard to build too as there are many layers of the wings which also needed to be put together.
But nevertheless I had a sense of satisfaction once my gundam was complete. It looked so majestic and cool! Oh and by the way, my gundam's name is called "Wing Gundam", cool name right? But I'm not the only one in my class who likes gundams, there is another one of my friends called Dylan who is also obsessed with gundams. As the saying goes, "Birds of a feather flock together"!
So that's all for my sixth post! I hope that all of you out there have an enjoyable and wonderful weekend like me! Good bye!

#1 What a delicious meal!
Yo people! It's me, Marcus again! Just wanted to tell you all out there that I had a very delicious meal last night. Normally my family and I would go to either restaurants or hawker centres for food but last night..... we went to Marina Bay Sands for dinner as it was our grandmother's birthday!!! There were a lot of scrumptious food there like stingray, braised duck, sushi and chocolate cakes etc. But my favourite food of all is the salmon sashimi, chilli crab and ice cream!!! But of course it costs a bomb to eat there so the bill was $730 for 7 adults and 4 children!!! We even went up to the sky garden and it was so beautiful and windy up there as it was at night but the entry price was actually $20 per person!
After that, my family and I went to Marina Square to do a little late night shopping. At first our main motive of going there was to buy a can of abalone for Chinese New Year but then we were too late so the shop was actually closed!!! In the end we went home with heavy hearts but nevertheless it was the most delicious meal I have ever had in my whole life! So that's all for my second post and always remember to eat healthily! Bye bye!
